APW - Illinois, Ariston, M.F. & Co., USA, 23J, 16S, gold-filled OF original M.F. & Co. Ariston case, "Ariston, U.S.A." marked white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, jeweled barrel, bright spotted pattern nickel damascene, s#1977907. An excellent triple signed example of this elegant private label which is quite rare in top grade versions such as this. The Ariston was a private label of Marshall Field & Co. and was offered in a range of 16 size, 12 size, and pendant watch sized grades.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces, few micro-fine scratches, thin strip of rub to perimeter of train bridge at left side; dial with light outer chapter hls between 1 and 2, few extremely faint hls above seconds-register; excellent hands; case shows light wear, deep notches filed to band of case underneath bezel at each of the hour positions, two deep scratches inside rear at right perimeter presumably from a past test for gold content, prominent ding to front of band and adjacent position of bezel near 10:30, ding toward lower-right perimeter of rear, some additional lesser dings and nicks elsewhere, tiny specks of wear to brass to reverse of pendant; tight bow, crown shows medium wear; good glass crystal.
